My Celica was in the shop last time I hiked Whitney, this may be the first time the Celica got east of Porcupine Creek.
Clouds Rest and Half Dome

Whoa Nellie Deli aka Tioga Gas Mart with Mono Lake in the background
I was 20 minutes too early for lunch so I settled for a ham and cheese breakfast croissant, which I then ate with the bristlecones...

13:05
I arrived at the White Mountains without a real plan.  In 2013 I hiked the short Discovery trail, so I soon decided to hike the slightly longer Mexican Mine trail.
There wasn't much left at the mine sites, but it was a beautiful day in the bristlecones!

Smoke from the Rough Fire in Sequoia National Park loomed overheard to the south.
The smoke seemed to stay above a level of about 10,000'
That did not look like inviting conditions for a summit hike at 14,508'!

I picked up our permits and wag bags at the visitor center.
Mike and Ray were still about an hour away so I visited the Lone Pine Film History Museum.
I love westerns, and I love films, and I love history, so what's not to like?
Unfortunately I was pretty disappointed by the Lone Pine Film History Museum.
The only two items that caught my eye at all were...

Maureen O'hara, and

17:25
The props from Tremors...

We stayed at the Boulder Creek RV Park, which was a madhouse full of RVs and kids running around.
